Township elections to feature only one race

Annual elections and meetings are set for Tuesday in Big Lake and Orrock townships. Voting hours for the Big Lakers will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. But, unless there is unusual write-in activity, things should be pretty quiet, as all four persons occupying supervisor positions have filed for re-election - and without opposition. Supervisor Bob Hofer will seek another three-year seat. He served on the bord from 1993 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2013. Supervisor Norm Leslie is seeking another three-year term. He has served since 2004. Steve Pfleghaar, appointed in 2012 to fill the unexpired term of Mike Hayes, is seeking election to complete that term, running through March 10, 2015. Bruce Aubol, appointed also in 2012 to fill the unexpired term of Jim Stahlmann, is seeking election to complete that term, running through March 11, 2014. The annual meeting will follow close of polls at the township hall, located at Lions Park, two miles north of the city on Co. Rd. 5. Clerk Laura Hayes noted no special projects would be on the annual meeting agenda, essentially budgetary items. At Orrock Twp., Supervisor Charlie Gotzian is facing competition for re-election to his seat from Shane Berg. Supervisor Corrie Silverberg is running unopposed for re-election to his position, as is Laura Jones, in the treasurer’s position. Voting hours at the Orrock Twp. Hall, 26401 180th St. NW, Big Lake (North off Co. Rd. 4, a half mile east of Co. Rd. 5), are also 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Their annual meeting will follow. Snow removal from township roads will be a prime agenda item.
