Joseph Lee Rettke, age 37 of Big Lake, passed away at Centra Care Health of Monticello on Sunday September 28, 2014.  Visitation will be Thursday October 2, 2014 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Peterson-Grim

The Big Lake girls soccer team won one game and lost two over the past week. Last Saturday the Hornets controlled the ball for most of the game in an 8-0 win over Spectrum at home. Big Lake opened the scoring on a  goal Kalee Kitzman with an assist from Kadee Kitzman.

The Big Lake Hornets volleyball team beat St. Cloud Tech Monday at home, 25-14, 25-17 and 26-24.

The Big Lake Hornets girls varsity tennis team lost two matches this week after competing in an invitational at St. Francis Saturday. The Hornets lost, 7-0, versus the St. Michael Albertville (STMA), Knights Thursday. Tuesday they lost to the Monticello Magic, 5-2.

The Big Lake boys soccer team split their last six games, winning three games last week and then losing three this week. Last Monday, the Hornets beat Mayer Lutheran, 6-2. Raymond Cisneros and Grant Vickerman each scored two goals.

The Sherburne County Area United Way and the Wright County Area United Way kicked off their annual fall fundraising campaign by joining hands across the Mississippi River on the Hwy. 25 bridge Thursday morning.

This past week was Homecoming Week in the Big Lake School District. Candidates for homecoming king and queen were announced at a pep fest Monday. Coronation was Friday.

David Stokke of Big Lake works for MarineMax in Rogers, so when his company took on a new line of jet boats, he suggested bringing two of them up to Big Lake for a trial run.

Fire destroys Gustafson Trailers building

A four-alarm fire at Gustafson Trailers in Becker Twp. destroyed the main building located at 14747 165th Ave. SE at Hwy. 10 and Co. Rd. 11 Tuesday afternoon.
