The Big Lake Board of Education held a workshop meeting Tuesday evening. They met with and interviewed two potential consultants to help with the search for a new superintendent, following the retirement of Jonathan Miller, who served the Big Lake School District for 12 years.

The Big Lake Lioness held their annual garage sale in Lions Park off Co. Rd. 5 Saturday morning. Funds from the sale will go to support some of their other endeavours throughout the year.

Oak wilt is a common problem in Sherburne County but it is not the only tree disease which can have a negative impact on local woods and forests. Oak blight is a tree disease which resembles oak wilt to some extent. It only attacks burr oaks and is referred to by the arborist community as BOB. 
After more than three years of litigation, Sherburne County and Vonco II have come to an agreement regarding host fees at the landfill located in Becker. The two parties signed an agreement in June that establishes fees for industrial solid waste (ISW) and construction and demolition debris (C&D).

A 17-year old girl from Becker is on the road to recovery following a single car roll-over accident on Co. Rd. 5 early Sunday evening. Jasmine Tubbs went off the road in the 23600 block of Co. Rd. 5, near Big Lake, Cmdr. Steve Doran of the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Voters in light turnout for primary

Voters turned out at the primary elections to select candidates for some races to be voted on in the November elections.
