Big Lake School District’s summer breakfast and lunch program has really taken off this year, with many more children taking advantage of the free meals.

Tom Grossnickle, who works for the public works department in Monticello, got a big surprise three weeks ago when a large bird flew into a window while he was at work.

The Sherburne County Fair was blessed with perfect weather for at least three of the four days of its run last week. Starting with Day Care Day Thursday and ending with senior day Sunday, attendance was up over last year.

Smokey the Bear visited the Big Lake Public Library Tuesday to teach everyone about the dangers of wildfire and how to prevent it.

Cooper Adcock and Natalie Johnson volunteered to be in charge of selling snacks to weary shoppers at the Sale of Stuff.
The Saron Lutheran Church youth ministry, The Refuge, held their Sale of Stuff this week. The congregation donated plenty of very nice items to sell.

Daniel Barenburg, 47, of Big Lake Township, was arrested after a six-hour stand-off with law enforcement officials Sunday evening shortly before 10 p.m.

A&W fades away in training blaze

The old A&W building which once stood at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Hwy. 10 is gone forever, burned up in a training exercise by the Big Lake Fire Dept. Monday evening.
