Over the past year, the Big Lake Community Food Shelf [BLCFS] has worked towards updating its website in an effort to keep the community involved and informed of the events and happenings at the food shelf.

WENDY THE COCKATOO FINDS HER WAY HOME says Tom Grossnickle, who had been looking for the bird’s owner ever since she flew into a window at the Monticello Public Works Dept. The 50-year old bird, originally from Australia, flew out an open door as her owners were preparing to move. “They were very pleased to see each other,” said Tom.

If an increase in new home construction is an indicator of an improving economy, then there are positive signs in some areas of Sherbrune County.

The Big Lake Board of Education heard from special education director of the Sherburne Northern  Wright County Special Education Cooperative Nan Records at their meeting last week.  Records said the Big Lake School District had a remarkably clean fiscal compliance report from the state.

About 120 people from all over Central Minnesota gathered in a field of prairie grass in Clearwater Twp. last Wednesday evening to commemorate a special event. It was the dedication of the new 604-acre Minne-sota Veterans State Wild-life Management Area (WMA).

A few weeks ago, Erv Danielowski of Big Lake was mowing the grass next to the Big Lake Fire Hall on Co. Rd. 43, when something in the long grass caught his attention. “It’s amazing I didn’t just run it over,” said Erv. “That’s what I would usually do.”
